The importance of ensuring your child’s dental hygiene cannot be overstated. Around six months is a good age for a first appointment, and you should certainly bring your bundle of joy to see us once a few baby teeth have come through – or by their first birthday at the very latest.

Dental health services for expectant and new mothers

Pregnancy can increase your risk of gum disease, sensitivity and tooth ache due to hormonal changes. If you are being treated under the NHS, you will qualify for free dental care. To apply for this, you need an application form from your midwife, GP or health visitor. You’ll receive a Maternity Exemption Certificate which will remain valid throughout your pregnancy, and for 12 months from your baby’s due date or actual date of birth.

The services offered during this time include regular dental check-ups, fillings and cleaning. Most treatments are perfectly safe for both you and your baby and the dentist will discuss ways in which you can prevent toothache and improve your oral hygiene safely at home.

Pediatric dental health services

The development of dental decay has become an issue for children. Monitoring a child’s dental health from an early age allows a dentist to ensure the development of a healthy smile throughout the years. We recommend regular check-ups every six months, sometimes more frequently, and we have fun models in the surgeries to show your little ones how to brush their teeth properly.

Children under the age of 18 qualify for dental care at no cost. This eligibility can be increased to 19 if they are still in full time education.
